Five Signs Your Business Website Needs a Redesign

A website does not have to look broken to be costing you customers. These five signs tell you it is time for a rebuild instead of another patch.

We talk to a lot of business owners who say the same thing: the site works, it just does not do anything. That is usually the honest description of a website that was built once, years ago, and left alone. Here are the signs we look for when deciding whether a site needs a refresh or a rebuild.

1. It is hard to use on a phone

More than half of local searches happen on a phone, often in a parking lot. If visitors have to pinch and zoom, hunt for the phone number, or scroll past a giant slideshow to find your hours, they leave. A modern site puts the call button, the address, and the hours within one thumb of the top of the page.

2. You cannot update it yourself

If changing a price or adding a staff member means emailing someone and waiting a week, the site will always be out of date. A site you can edit from your phone in five minutes is a site that stays accurate.

3. It loads slowly

Oversized images and old plugins add seconds to every page load, and every second costs you visitors. Run your homepage through Google's PageSpeed tool. Anything under 60 on mobile is worth a conversation.

4. It does not say who you are

Stock photos and generic copy could belong to any business in any town. Real photos of your team, your storefront, and your work are the single biggest trust signal a local business can show.

5. Nobody fills out the form

If the contact form gets spam and nothing else, the problem is rarely the form. It is that the page around it does not give people a reason or a clear next step. A redesign is a chance to write that path on purpose.
Not every site needs a full rebuild. Sometimes two of these signs can be fixed in an afternoon. If you are seeing three or more, take a look at what a rebuild costs and let's talk.
